Cheri Havens
Cheri was born in 1948 in Idaho and spent most of her childhood there. Cheri accepted Jesus as her personal Savior during a Christmas Program in Boise in 1956. As a teen, her family moved to the Midwest and she finished high school and attended 2 years of college in Missouri. As a young married woman, she moved cross country several times, living in Missouri, Montana, Colorado and California. She and her husband Harvey have lived in Topeka, KS since 1980. They are parents of six wonderful children, all grown, grandparents of sixteen and great grandparents of six with one more to arrive this spring. She is an ordained minister in good standing with Family of God Church in Topeka and has attended FOG School of Intensive Ministry Training for the last 7 years. In several different churches, she has taught Sunday School, Youth Groups, Ladies Groups, After School Groups, helped organize VBS (Vacation Bible School), food distribution and countless fundraisers, set up church libraries, published newsletters, made draperies, tablecloths and numerous craft items, set up kitchens and cleaned toilets. She spent three years as secretary of Family of God Church and was Assistant Chaplain at Shawnee County Jail; a position she is on leave from at present. In the working world, Cheri would probably be labeled a workaholic, but she strongly believes idle hands are the devil's workshop and an idle tongue promotes the enemy's work. She tries to follow Jesus in His work ethics. "He went about doing good." She, herself considers Prayer the best labor and the sweetest fellowship. Cheri claims her life scripture as Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ Jesus, who strengthens me. She knows her strongest ministry is Helps...stepping in to fill a need till the need is met or till the one God chose shows up. She presently leads Anointed Coverings Group at Family of God Church, a sewing class that ministers healing for the oppressed, and provides quilts for those in need, is on "Eye of the Storm" with Pastor Rusty Mayfield weekday mornings on Upper Room Radio, is acting church treasurer and helps to lead Redeeming Love Bible Fellowship on Monday evenings.
